Sweet Dreams Baby Lotion Recipe
Soothing baby lotion for baby's skin and lightly scented for calming
1 1/2 c. aloe vera gel
1 1/2 tsp. lanolin
1 1/2 tsp. Vitamin E oil
1/3 c. virgin coconut oil
1 oz. pure beeswax (white),filtered
3/4 c. camelina oil
1 1/2 tsp. essential oil (optional) 2 tbsp. lavender powder
1 1/2 tsp. chamomile powder
In a blender, mix aloe gel, lanolin, vitamin E oil. Using a glass container, melt coconut oil and beeswax until fully melted. Gently stir in camelina oil. Slowly pour oils into blender on low. At this point oils will thicken and turn white. Stop blender and add essential oil,if used. Blend gently in short bursts. Do NOT over blend. Add lavender and chamomile powders, blend gently until incorporated. While mixture is still warm, pour into containers. This mixture will thicken quickly as it cools. This lotion doesn't leave oily feeling to skin and absorbs well. Great as a massage lotion for baby. Makes approximately 2 1/2 cups.

I have substituted shea butter for lanoline and it turns out just fine.
Which Lotion Ingredients are Best?
I have read many "natural baby lotion" recipes for homemade lotions have been concerned with the many calls for waxes and petroleum jelly which can actually irritate a baby's skin.
I believe it is much healthier and still cost effective to "thicken" your lotions with organic shea butter. It also has a low spf, helping protect your baby's skin from harmful UV rays.
Choosing the best natural and organic ingredients like jojoba oil, olive oil, shea butter, olive butter, almond and coconut oils will make a big difference in healthier skin.
If you are making a lot of homemade lotions you might want to think about adding a natural preservative to your list of ingredients. Many use these natural preservatives for anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-oxidant properties.
Some natural preservatives include grapefruit seed extract, green tea extract, rosemary extract, and vitamin E. These preservatives, however, will only add 3-6 months shelf life to your baby's lotions.
Good lotion is perishable like food. It's ok. Natural, healing lotions and creams make wonderful natural and
organic baby gifts
. Your baby and everyone else will enjoy using them up. You won't have to throw away as much as you think, if any at all.
